Muay Thai (มวยไทย in Thai), translates into English as Thaiboxing and is the national sport of Thailand. It is also known sometimes as ‘The Science of Eight Limbs’, due to the fact that either hand, elbow, knee or foot can be used as a point of contact.
Muay Thai has a long history and tradition in Thailand; some estimates date it’s predecessor, Muay Boran or ‘Ancient Boxing‘ back over 2,000 years.
Muay Thai, along with Savate, Karate and Taekwondo have heavily influenced the development of Kickboxing around the World and in recent years, Muay Thai has enjoyed a boost in popularity worldwide as it has been used very effectively in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Its aggressive style and effective use of hands, legs, elbows and knees has led to it becoming the de facto martial art of choice for stand-up fighters.
Training in Muay Thai classes supremely conditions the mind and body by drilling pad and partner work, as well as using bodyweight exercises.
